Character Background and Description

In his youth, Marcello was one of the most skilled automata engineers of his time. He spent nearly all hours of his day tinkering with clockwork, making adjustments to current models of the automata and fantasizing about the future of their designs. He has been known to tell stories of automata that were self-aware and capable of holding intelligent conversations, but he receives mixed reactions to these perceived "fairytales".

He met his wife, Maria, when he was in his early 20s, fell in love almost instantly and proposed to her after two years of dating--though he says he bought her engagement ring after only a month of knowing her. They have been happily married ever since, raised three kids together, and remain just as crazy about each other as they were when they were young.

As time went on, Marcello's hands grew less and less deft, and after celebrating is 65th birthday with this friends and coworkers from the engineering facility, he decided to retire from his job and live out the rest of his life doing anything and everything he pleased. After the birth of their second child, Marcello discovered that his wife was a fae woman in disguise, but rather than drive them apart, this discovery only made them that much closer. Though he continued to attend services at the church of the Great Craftsman, after his retirement, Marcello announced that he was converting to the religion of the fae and merfolk, purely out of curiosity in his old age. In reality, he had converted to learn as much as he could in his time left about his wife's religion and culture now that he knew her true identity.

Marcello has always had a magnetic personality, charismatic and witty with his words and a fantastic storyteller. He is incredibly curious, always wondering the "how" of things rather than the "why". He is fascinated with technology, specifically clockwork and the automata, but has always found pleasure in tinkering or toying with anything he can get his hands on.
